Who owns a device after a number port?

So my question is this: if someone ports their phone number into the account of a friend or relative, and because it is a new line they get a new phone which is discounted because of the ported number, who owns the device? In my opinion the person who ported their number in would own the device. Am I wrong?

    Yes, you are. The account holder owns the phone.
