Why does Argentina think they should have the Falklands?

Spain originally colonized the Falklands but the colony collapsed and was taken by the British.

Argentinians have never owned the Falklands.

All the people in the Falklands are of British descent and want to stay British.

In terms of geography, Denmark technically owns Greenland but that doesn't mean Canada or the US should have it.

The Falklands don't have to give the UK anything and have their own government (like Guernsey which isn't claimed by France).

At no point did Spain cede or give or will away any territories, it was all hostile revolts and revolutions.

The whole reason they invaded in the first place was to take public attention away from their failing economy.

The Falklands would be worse off under Argentina.

The UN backed the UK in the Falklands war.

The Argentinians INVADED and the British sent troops to repel the INVADERS.

No one except Argentina care that Britain have the Falklands.

Argentina taking the Falklands is just as colonial and imperialistic, if their that concerned about it being part of our "empire" they would want it to be an independent, sovereign state.

Update:

i see that no one has bothered to read my description

The most important thing is they DO think they own the Islands and its not impossible they would cause a lot of trouble to get them, perhaps just short of military action,or not ?

I know Britain is committed to defend the islands and people, but our defence forces get less and less,to the point where a serving chief of the general staff has complained,. unheard of.

The Argentines invaded The Falkland Islands in 1982. I don't believe the military junta bothered to inform the population of Argentina as to exactly why they were invading. My own suspicion is that the potential of gaining ready access to a vast wealth of resources (including oil) was not far from the mind of this military dictatorship,

Geography. It's closer to Argentina than anywhere else. And, there's bucket loads of oil down there.

Frankly, Argentina can bugger off. The Falklands are British, always will be. I've worked down there before, it's a nice enough place. Very friendly and very patriotic!

Its generally known that the Falklands is rich in ALL mineral wealth, so why doesn't Britain get cracking and get this especially the oil, come on wake up whoever is in charge

    Geography. That's about it.

And we did read your description. You asked why the argentines claim the Falklands, not why they

deserve them. We have simply stated their reasoning. In no way does that mean we agree with it.

It doesn't really matter mate. The people of the Falklands have made their voice heard. Britain will defend their decision. the Argies may as well be p!ssing into the wind.

How would Britain feel if Argentina claimed and settled in the channel islands? Similar thing?
