Atlantis for a day on a cruise?
Our cruise is stopping in Nassau from 1pm to midnight in July. I have 2 teenage girls and would like them to see the Atlantis. However, it is $85 per person just for transportation there to use their beaches, and $175 per person to add in the water slides etc! Is it worth it? Can we just take a cab (and is it safe) to the Atlantis and use the beach or is that not possible? Also, is it worth it to just take a cab there and look around and not swim? Should we skip the Atlantis and just shop in Nassau and go on the glass bottom boat? Thanks for any info!

I suggest you just skip Atlantis. It's ok but for the money it's a big waste. I did it one time and won't ever again.
I have been to Nassau several times and we now always go to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. It's a free public beach and it's wonderful. My fiancee was there last summer on a cruise with her daughter and they spent the day on Cabbage Beach and had a wonderful time.
When you get off the ship just walk on past all of the people hawking sightseeing trips etc and get out to the street and ask a cab driver to take you to Cabbage Beach. It's a short 5 min ride and very cheap. Something like $10 as I recall. They'll let you out at a path that's maybe 100 yards long that opens up onto the beach not very far from the Atlantis resort. When you get there there will be people renting chairs for about $5 each. My fiancee rented chairs and a big umbrella for about $40 and was glad she did since there were some rain showers that day.
Just take your towels from the ship and you don't need to pack beach towels. When you're ready to go back to the ship just walk back out the path and there will be lots of cabs waiting to take people back to the ships. I suggest getting to Cabbage Beach early in the day if you want to enjoy it less crowded if there are a lot of cruise ships in port. I have been in the early morning and there were very few people there. In the afternoon it can get crowded at times but it's still great.
There is a nice beach within walking distance of the cruise ships too. It is Junkanoo Beach. I haven't been to it myself but I have read it's a nice beach. It is in sight of the cruise ships and then you won't have to pay for cab fare.
Another beach I've read about is Cable Beach. It is very similar to Cabbage Beach from what I understand and I'm sure the cabs will take you and pick you up the same from there.
Here is a link to a Google map showing you Paradise Island where Cabbage Beach is. As you look at the map the section of beach I'm talking about is between the Sheraton Grand Resort and the Sunrise Beach Club & Villas. If you zoom in on that section you can make out the paths through the trees that lead to the beach. The cabs line up along Casino Drive.

I was there one time with a longer stay than yours. We docked at 8am and left at midnight. That morning we took a taxi cab tour of the island which was fun and all of the cabs do them. Just haggle them down and you can do it for $50 or less easily. Then we went back to the ship for lunch. After lunch we took a cab to Cabbage Beach for the afternoon and stayed 3-4 hours then back to the ship to shower and change and then went back out and walked around the shops and went to Senior Frogs.
Good luck and I hope this is helpful!

Atlantis is a business, and their property is private. So, no you cannot walk in and use their property for free.
You are going to be in the city for less than 24 hours, so I would suggest limiting your activities to a walk around the main shopping area downtown, a lunch at a nice restaurant, and some of the local attractions, that are within a 20 minute walk of the docks.
