How many presents are you putting under the tree tonight?

I have 4 kids, ages 15, 14, 8 and 3. I spent around $7,000 on them this year for Christmas including new computers etc for all. Total is 174 presents to put under the tree. Some family and friends are telling me I spent too much and they should only get a couple things. They are getting 4 each from me and rest are from santa, the two oldest don't believe but they go along with it for the younger ones. How many presents are you putting under the tree?

174 is a large amount of presents to give at Christmas, in my opinion. If the presents are just for them, that's 43.5 presents per child. I would have to agree with your family and friends. A few presents is more than enough for Christmas, and $7,000 is quite a lot of money to spend on gifts for kids at Christmas.

I fear you're setting yourself up for disappointment over the next few years if you do not keep the trend up. Remember a Christmas list is a guideline, you don't need to buy (nor should you) everything they ask for.

About 3 gifts one for each person. I do believe that is too much. I would have spent at most $500 for all in total

I live alone with a cat. In a remote place in the highlands of Scotland. So I have put out a tipple for Santa and a biscuit for Rudolph. Also, I have a stocking with a tin of tuna for the cat. You must be a rich man.

None, no tree, no family, no Christmas - day off of work, though.

    2. Most people would agree that is excessive.
