I know what it's not, so now what?

Hey folks! Happy Holidays, and if you don't believe in Holidays, enjoy your time off!

I've been on here asking questions about my cat, and though you guys have done your best to answer, none have been the correct answer! So now here's part 3 or 4 to my question.

My cat seems to have a thing about peeing on rugs or mats ( 6 yr. old female, fixed, shots up to date). Some suggested various sprays or other potions, some said take her to the vet, or it could be her social setting ( no other pets, no kids, just the wife and I. Had her since birth.), or some other problem. Well I finally figured it out! The one thing that all of these rugs and mats had in common is; rubber!!! After giving up on buying new mats, the wife and I purchased another set today and guess what?! She peed on it! So my question is; does anyone know why she would have this obsession with the smell of rubber and is there anyway to break it?! She doesn't pee on anything else and we stay on her box like a cop on a drunk driver, so what gives? Wives like rugs and mats and I need help on how to stop my cat from doing the deed on them all the time! Thanks!

Throw rugs smell like ammonia, ammonia is a by product of urine, therefore the mats smell like something the cat should pee on. I have three cats and had to get rid of all my rubber backed mats and find natural material woven rugs. I still have one cat that has the habit ingrained and will pee on the new rugs, but the other two cats have stopped. It may be possible to change the type of rug you buy and use aversion therapy to cure your cat. Double sided tape on the rug, vinegar scented spray, any of the other things people have suggested. Good luck! As for me, we are still rug less:(
