How much would it be for a cv joint replacement for a 97 ford contour and for a wheel bearing. If you're from jersey, it would help if it was nj prices. Central jersey.

  • How much can i save before seizure?

Hey folks! I'm hoping that someone here can answer my question here being that I didn't see a category for it! I've been making my payments to the IRS on back taxes, and overall, I've been on time. My first question is; Even if I'm sending my payments to the IRS thru my bank days before my payment due date, it seems to get to them after the date. Does the IRS understand that I posted the money thru my bank 5 days beforehand and it's their fault it's late? It's like paying by mail ( money order) is faster WTH!?! My second question is that I'd like to know how much I can save in my bank account. I'd like to put away some money for either a vacation or for another car for my wife, but if I put a few thousand away, will the IRS seize it even if I'm making my payments? Thanks for the answers!

  • WHo's really responsible for this?!?

Hey guys, just quick question. When it comes to vehicle quality, who do you think is more responsible for poor quality; the designers, the engineers, or the people that assemble it?

  • Is there something he didn't do right?

Hey guys! I'm going to explain this the way it happened so try to bear with me. I'm sure you guys understand that I'm not a mechanic.

Today I took my car to have the front left wheel bearing replaced. After the mechanic replaced it, he said that I would need a wheel alignment afterwards. Well when I went to pick the car up, I noticed that he rotated the tires. So my questions are; is this common to rotate the tires? Also, I had used smaller tires on the front, and fairly new tires in the rear. Now that they've been rotated, I'm noticing a little shaking at highway speeds. It wasn't doing that before I brought it in, now it is. Any thing I should ask him tomorrow? Thanks for the advice.

  • how do i turn of my touchpad?

Hey guys! I tried to call technical support, I tried watching videos on youtube and still nothing! I have a gateway laptop with windows 7 and I can't seem to turn the touchpad off. I tried the whole control panel hardware thing and everytime I get to the part about turning the pad off, I hit a wall. My laptop says nothing about device settings ( got that from youtube) only hardware, then it takes me to 3 options for my mouse. I tried all 3 and 1 turns the mouse off, one I can't disable. and one has no effect. I even went to ehow and it told me to do the exact same thing that the youtube vid did! I'm at my wits end, so does anyone know how to disable it? It was off before I took it to best buy, but now I can't turn it off. Thanks.

  • Why is he still trying to overheat?!?

    Hey guys! I am at my wits end with my car! Let me give you the specifics; I have a 97 Ford Contour 2.0l 5 spd man. For the past 2 weeks it's been bordering between trying to overheat and actually doing it! Well I took the car to the mechanic and he said that the radiator was clogged and I'd need a new radiator. Well I took his advice and got it just last Friday. Well, I'm driving it to work today and I opened him up on the highway, and not a hint of overheating. Well as soon as I got off of the highway to pay the toll, the temp started to go up. The fan came on, and the temp still kept rising! I got to work without it overheating, but I was worried. Well driving home from work, the same thing. By the time I stopped at the toll, the temp started to rise again! The fan came on and the needle went to the very top of the range without overheating. For the last 3+miles of driving home, the fan stayed on and the temp didn't drop. So my questions are;

1-Why is it still doing this?

2-Is changing the thermostat part of changing the radiator?

3-Could this be a sensor issue?

5-By the fan constantly staying on like this, could it burn out the fan?

6- And if the fan is in normal to extremely hot, why is it that I'm not getting any heat?

Any advice or help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated! I know I'm cheating some by asking so many questions, but I've come to depend on you guys opinions! Thanks.

  • Can your team even come close to the Yankees?!?

Hey guys! The announcement of Jeter has set off a firestorm at work! My question is; is there ANY team in the history of baseball that could stack HoF players or legendary players, that would be able to beat the Yanks?! Yankees have so many HoFers at so many positions, until they could field a team that would be practically be unstoppable! Can any other team do that? The only team that I think could possibly do it is the Dodgers, and even they would lose! Would do you guys think?

  • Why does it not want to accelerate?

He y folks! I know you guys may say that you need to see/feel the car in order to diagnose my problem, but I'm hoping that you can point me in the right direction so I know my local mechanic won't try to B.S. me!

I have a 97 Ford Contour with a 2.0 5 sp. I recently changed the engine out after 201k miles. Well, the engine that I put in has about 68k miles, and for a while ran fine. About a month after it was installed, my rear o2 sensor went, so I had it replaced. Well today while I was driving, I needed to pick up some speed to merge onto the highway, and the check engine light started to flicker, then just stayed on! In addition to that, it seems like every time I push the car past 3500 rpm, the car sputters like it's either misfiring or not getting enough fuel. Once it hits cruising speed, there's like minor hesitations, then eventually it stops. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks.

  • It's too cold to be hot like this isn't it?

Hey guys. As you know, it's been kinda cold over here in the Northeast, so I need to know why this happened. Monday I was driving my car, and everything was normal. I pulled into a Dunkin Donuts and went in for maybe 5 minutes with the car running. Well when I came out, my thermostat gauge was almost at the red line level! I got in my car and started driving ( it was about 20 something degrees out, and the radiator fan was on) figuring that the cold air would bring the temperature down. Well I still had about a mile left to drive to get to work, and the temp. gauge never went down! It's never done that before, and it hasn't happened since, even though it's been only almost 2 day, but why did it do this? To give you the specs on the car; it's a 97 Ford Contour with a 2.0 and 5 sp. manual. It has 206k miles on it, but I changed the engine out last year, so the engine has 69k miles on it. Any advice you guys give is appreciated.

  • Is this strange that she would ask me this?

Hey folks! Something happened a while back that's bothered me, and I just want to see how you'd react or what you think about this situation.

Last summer, my wife's daughter came down for a visit. Maybe a mile from my house there's a strip club. As we were riding by, she says that we should go there. I'm not really into strip clubs, but I just kinda laughed it off as just her trying to be funny. Why would she ask me to go to a strip club with her? As her mother's husband, I don't think it's right for her and myself to be going into a strip club. She's a grown woman, and I was never a part of raising her. By the time my wife and I got together, she was already grown and on her own, so I'm not stepdaddy, I'm just her mothers husband. Was this weird or am I reading to much into this?

  • Does one have something to do with the other?

Hey guys. I've noticed two things with my car lately. One is that under hard acceleration, the car seems to hesitate some around 60+ mph, but under normal acceleration it doesn't do this. Second is that while I had the car in cruise on the highway, I was going up a reasonable hill, and the check engine light flickered on and off. My check engine light has been on ( haven't fixed it because I just put another engine in) and my mechanic says it's the rear O2 sensor. IS this what's causing these symptoms? My car is a 97 Ford Contour. The car itself hast 207K miles on it, but the engine I put in has 70K on it. The mechanic ( Meineke) said that they gave the engine a full tune up before they installed it. Thanks and have a Happy New Year!

  • I know what it's not, so now what?

Hey folks! Happy Holidays, and if you don't believe in Holidays, enjoy your time off!

I've been on here asking questions about my cat, and though you guys have done your best to answer, none have been the correct answer! So now here's part 3 or 4 to my question.

My cat seems to have a thing about peeing on rugs or mats ( 6 yr. old female, fixed, shots up to date). Some suggested various sprays or other potions, some said take her to the vet, or it could be her social setting ( no other pets, no kids, just the wife and I. Had her since birth.), or some other problem. Well I finally figured it out! The one thing that all of these rugs and mats had in common is; rubber!!! After giving up on buying new mats, the wife and I purchased another set today and guess what?! She peed on it! So my question is; does anyone know why she would have this obsession with the smell of rubber and is there anyway to break it?! She doesn't pee on anything else and we stay on her box like a cop on a drunk driver, so what gives? Wives like rugs and mats and I need help on how to stop my cat from doing the deed on them all the time! Thanks!

  • The car is too noisy! Does anyone know what this is?

Hey folks! I posted this question a few days ago, but I didn't exactly get a response that made sense, so hopefully there's a new group of mechanics on here that can answer me.

I have a 97 Ford Contour 2.0 5spd. with 206k miles on it. For the past 2 weeks i've noticed a loud noise that sounds like new snow tires coming from the area of the engine. The noise is just awful! It usually starts at about 25 mph and increases in sound depending on speed or weather conditions. At first I thought it was the engine or the tranny, but at speed, I take the car out of gear and the rpms go down, but the sound still stays. As the car slows down, the noise level goes down too. I'm thinking it's one of my wheels, but i'm no mechanic, that's why i'm asking you guys! Any ideas on what this could be so I don't get taken advantage of by my local mechanic? Also, whatever you may think it is, could you give me an approximate cost in NJ prices? Thanks!

Has anyone else noticed that when you click on the sports section of YA's, the picture that they show has the guy in the middle with the green and white face looks like George Bush Jr.?!

  • What is this noise coming from my car?

Hey guys! I recently took my car to Meineke to find out about this noise coming from my car, and these guys said they didn't hear it! It sounds like it's coming from either one of my tires or directly from the engine. It sounds like new snow tires on the car, and from 25 mph and higher, you can hear it! The mechanic actually told me that he couldn't hear it after driving it, and I think he was just feeding me the bull! I'm going to take it to another shop, but I want to know if anyone has any ideas on what this may be. FYI I drive a 97 Ford Contour with a 5 spd. manual, and even when I take the car out of gear ( at speed) the rpm's go down, but the noise doesn't stop until the car is at a stop. If you have any ideas, let me know, also let me know what kind of cost what you think it is may be. Thanks.

  • 2 legends and a leader, who's the most popular?

Hey guys! My coworkers and I are having a heated discussion right now about who's the most popular man on earth. Now we're not talking Jesus, Muhammed or Buddha here, just men.

My question is; if The Pope, Michael Jackson, and Muhammed Ali died on the same day, who's funeral would have more people or more coverage?

  • Shouldn't he have to pay for this?!?

Hey people! I know you're probably tired of my car questions butit seems as if this car keeps having issues, and the the repairman just compounds them! Any way here it goes! I have a 97 ford contour 2.0l with 203k miles on it. After so many miles, yes I know this will go wrong on it. I've change the wheel hubs, the clutch, control arms, exhaust system, and practically every other major component on the car. A month ago, I blew the engine, so now that's been replaced with one that had only 67k miles on it. Well, starting this week there's been squeaking coming from the pulleys. I brought it to a meineke shop and they said that it was the serpentine belt. Well they changed the belt and it turns out that it's not the belt, but the tensioner pulley. My question is; since I got the engine thru the meineke shop, am I responsible for the cost of the repair? He says that the cost to repair it would be like $280, but I just paid him $1450 for the engine! Who's right here? I spoke to the owners assistant and he says that they were only responsible for making sure that the engine works, but that just sounds like they're trying to play me. Should I complain to meineke headquarters? Thanks.

  • Do you know of a reliable free app for this?

Hey folks! Do you know of a reliable music app where I can hum the music and it will identify the song? The name of the song i'm trying to find is like almost 30 yrs old and it's an old club song. As far as I know there were never really any words, but I know the beat. If there are any old club heads out there that could help me, i'd appreciate it.
