how do i turn of my touchpad?
Hey guys! I tried to call technical support, I tried watching videos on youtube and still nothing! I have a gateway laptop with windows 7 and I can't seem to turn the touchpad off. I tried the whole control panel hardware thing and everytime I get to the part about turning the pad off, I hit a wall. My laptop says nothing about device settings ( got that from youtube) only hardware, then it takes me to 3 options for my mouse. I tried all 3 and 1 turns the mouse off, one I can't disable. and one has no effect. I even went to ehow and it told me to do the exact same thing that the youtube vid did! I'm at my wits end, so does anyone know how to disable it? It was off before I took it to best buy, but now I can't turn it off. Thanks.

Follow these instructions.
Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Mouse
Look at the tabs. You'll see a tab on the far right. On my ASUS laptop it's labeled ELAN. Your laptop might have a different name, but that is your touchpad. Click on it.
You'll see a box without a check in it that says "Disable when external USB device is plugged in."
Check that box.
Click apply
Click OK
Now, plug in your USB mouse and your touchpad will be turned off. You might have to reboot your laptop for this setting to take effect.
