Does antivirus 3 pc license need 1 account?

Or can different accounts be used

    one account with the antivirus company can be used on anyone's account on a computer.Can be used on 3 different computer,that have different accounts.The computers don't even have to be in the same household.I give my Dad one of my 3 and he lives 150 miles from me.
