Look at it from a mechanical aspect. For months you have had a big weight in the front of your body. To maintain balance you have had to bend backwards to compensate for that weight. That means your lumbar curve became greater. The muscles of your back had to tighten up. Then you get an epidural, you push the kid out and now you do not have the weight in the front. Now you have to lean forward more, which stretches those tight muscles of the back and gives you a back ache. You would have the exact same mechanical issues even if you had not gotten the epidural. It is even worse if you put on a lot of weight. (IMHO more than 30 pounds is a lot of weight gain.)

What you need to do is exercise, not sit around and moan about your back hurting.

Yes, unfortunately that is a side effect that is to be expected. I also had bad back ache this soon after an epidural.

To reassure you: it did go completely away with time.

For now: be kind to your back. Try to do things like changing your baby at proper working height (like a changing table or even your kitchen counter) so that you don't have to hunch over. Trying to change a baby at a lower height (like a dining table) can really wreck your back, and you don't need the additional strain when recovering from an epidural. It can really make a huge difference.

Shouldn't ever have residual back pain after an epidural. Its a very thin small catheter that's inserted into the dural space of the spine. I've had 3 of them and never once or to this day have I had back pain associated from them.

Back pain from the epidural? speaking from experience that's normal. I believe it took 2 months of back pain, plus many other discomforts lol.

It's definitely normal! That was Intel four days ago....if you're really concerned or in a lot of pain talk to your doctor. Personally, I had occasional back pain (not crazy just discomfort once in a while) for a year after getting epidural.
