To what extent can my school monitor my chromebook?
I have a school-issued chromebook device, and I'm in high school. It obviously uses google chrome, and I have the following things I am wondering about. Note that these are things I want answered assuming that I am using my personal home internet (not the school's). To log on I must use my school gmail account, but I have the capability to log out of gmail while still remaining on the chromebook and even use my personal gmail. Please keep those in mind while answering these:
Can my school know the passwords for things because I type them?
Can my school see my browser history after I delete it?
Even after deleting my history, I think it must be stored somewhere like on google chrome. Where?
How may I delete this history that is not stored on the device but on the internet, if possible?
To what extent am I monitored? Like, does it tell them about keywords I search so they can check it, does it display everything I do, just please a detailed overview of how it is actually seen by my school. And, is "snooping" done in all cases or in cases that they have suspicions? If so, what kind of things cause them to snoop?
Finally, from personal expert knowledge, what do you recommend I avoid doing? (Not the "play it safe" advice but the "I know for a fact this is bad and this is okay" advice.)
I ask that only an expert on the matter with actual technical knowledge answer me. Do not worry, I am merely curious as to what's gonna happen with my chromebook. I have not and will not commit any felonious actions with my device. Thank you in advance.

Well from personal experience at my highschool, Yes there are certain ways they can monitor what you do on your chromebook. But since its a chromebook you may have more freedom as to what site you can access. Simple things like internet games are questionable but not serious. Here are a few ways they can monitor you and what you should avoid.
- Porn site, the schools proxy writes a list of what I.P. address has viewed, meaning they can easily see what sites you're looking at.
-Typing the word Porn, They could install a program which logs what keywords you type. Mainly vulgar and profane words such as "***, titties, pussy, *****". These logs are temporary because of the space and resources they use to monitor this. Just be careful of what you email your friend.
-Purposely trying to uninstall a school-installed program. I personally tried this, it was "forticlient" i was trying to get rid of. They didn't like it and I got suspension...
- Transferring data via USB/Flash drive. Many of my friends were caught doing this. They can easily check into data on your computer, folders, files, etc. Even transferring it from a flashdrive can get you into trouble depending whats on it.
-Downloading a bunch of ****. Don't even think of downloading illegal content as it will get you federal offenses. Downloading a lot of un-school related stuff is the easiest way to get you noticed. Be careful doing that.
All this is possible, and judging that you got chromebooks means they got more money to spare on monitoring technology meaning they can do **** I never heard of.
The "Tech-Lab" can easily 'tap-in' to what youre doing, pull up what you see on your screen, to theirs. They can take control of the cursor at any minute rendering your actions useless unless you turn the chromebook off. But don't worry, they cant look at you from the built in cam. Only what you do on your monitor, they can see.
Reminder, this is how it is at my school, they mainly crackdown on porn but playing a few games wasnt that bad. They simply block the site such as Facebook, Twitter, any fun stuff. Just wait and see how things go down their and see how much freedom you have. GOOD LUCK :)
STAY AWAY FROM PORN... and you should be fine.

I am the Google administrator at my school. We have software loaded onto all of our chrome books that takes a real-time record of everything done, every website visited, and every keystroke input in. It does not show up within the system, but is buried deep in the bios and Chrome OS. There is NOTHING a student or faculty member can do that we cannot see or trace. The only way to access the program is to know where it is buried, and to have the correct password. I don't recommend doing anything on your school issued chrome book that you would not want them to see. Buy your own device!

Mostly they are monitoring whether you are visiting porn sites, torrents, or any activity that could be thought of as illegal or unethical. They probably have flags that will notify them if you do anything with the chrome book they do not want you doing. I would also stay away from the kind of websites that are thought to be unsafe like game cheat sites. Only use the chrome book for studying, facebook, youtube, research, pinterest, email and the like.

(1) Use windows or windows software they phone home and tell M$ everything
(2) Use Google (Chrome. Chromium.Google Search).
(3) Use Facebook. Myspace. they are geared to make users give out their private details and photoss so the world can see everthing and who your contacts and friends are.
Keep your schools Chrome book to use for school work don't use it for anything else but school work, it will be used to spy on what you do.

I personally think that myspace is only as good or as bad as the owner of his/her space allows it to be. I hear the nightmares about myspace all the time and I have had a myspace page for months and never experienced anything negative. Myspace is like anything else in life, if you go looking for trouble or are oblivious to trouble that can be directed at you then you are at risk and probably should find safer pass times.
