WHEN to stain a new deck?

I am building a deck in San Francisco. It should be finished by the middle of January. The deck will be built using pressure-treated lumber for posts and redwood boards for the decking. I have seen different recommendations as to

WHEN to stain the wood, from before installation, to immediately after the deck is built to waiting at least a month until the wood loses its moisture.

Can someone help?

It will be great to have some recommendation as to what kind of stain to use.

Thanks

it depends on the moisture content of the lumber

the redwood will be kiln dried (at least it is where I live) so no reason to wait to stain that part

its the pressure treated lumber that could have a lot of moisture in it still, mostly because of the process to treat it and if it does then its recommended to let it dry out before staining

but you need to check the lumber and make the call, some times it will be nice and dry when purchased and sometimes they are soaking wet

Follow the recommendations of your stain

Although each method you state would work, I agree with waiting method.
