A doctor prescribed my 5 year old son Codeine / Promethazine at 5ML doses. Is that normal?

According to all of the drug websites, kids under 6 aren't even supposed to take it and the sites that say it's ok, say that the dosage is 2.5 ml.

Yes, it's normal -- or used to be. Phenergan with codeine has been used for years on children. Recently however there's been a concern about children's metabolism of codeine, converting it to morphine at a higher rate than adult bodies do. At least this has happened in a couple cases, I'm not sure that all children have this mega-reaction to codeine.
