My dad keeps clearing his throat how do i get him to stop?

Don't be so hard on your dad, this happens to a lot of people, and it's his lungs producing phlegm/mucus or liquids, and thewe things need to cleared out to prevent further lung problems. They are a lot of medications you can get from the pharmacy without a prescription just ask the pharmacist. my friend had a similar problem and he got some medicine to relief phlegm and now he is much better. Sounds more of a habit to me if its every 30-60 secs.....unless you can hear the mucus rattling in his throat then I would say he doesn't even realise he's doing it. If there is an underlying problem then I think you will find him coughing more than just clearing his throat. To me its just a habit he finds hard to break.

Mine does it too. In the morning it's at it's worst and when he's sitting watching tele it's just constant. It's not as bad when he's with my mum but when he's sitting by himself in silence OMFG it would do your head in.

He doesn't need to do it. He was always that kind of man that would be really loud and now and then he would clear his throat in an exaggerated manner. But, it's no longer now and then it's just always.

seriously buddy if he's clearing his throat that often it's clearly something he has no control over .... except to say there must be something he's eating or drinking that's irritating the inside of his oesophagus .... unaddressed lactose intolerance will produce symptoms like that ... salt does it for me ..... :)

I dont understand why your parents wouldnt bring this up with your docotr... its been 2 yrs since youve seen a doctor!??? You should go see a doctor... just because... but it sound slike allergies
