I cant install ubuntu inside my windows 7 laptop from live usb. Please help?
The option it shows is to install ubuntu "inside" windows 7.
then clicking next it restarts the computer. then again it shows me two choices whether to try or install ubuntu... which was the first step.....
but i was able to install it in my desktop (win xp). there it showed me the option : to install ubuntu alongside windows.(not inside) and after clicking next it didnt restart, it just asked me to choose how much space i wanna divide between the two OS.
please help.
But i wanna install it the way it installed in my desktop i.e. alongside win (dualboot)
but it doesnot shows that option.

This sounds like a glitch , try an download the iso file from a trusted download mirror try this link from Ubuntu's Launchpad page : http://bit.ly/1cgOnKS ( but it all depends on the version you want to install e.g 13.04, 13.10 .... or Try Unetbootin to download the iso : http://www.unetbootin.sourceforge.net/%E2%80%8E
Or try & resize the partitions in Win 7 by using microsoft's "Disk Management" tool from the Control panel or by clicking the start orb & searching : disk management Or use the third-party software EasyBCD: http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/

Without further detail, I can say this: Installing Ubuntu from the Live USB / Live CD will install it alongside Windows 7 (you get to choose when you start the computer which OS to use). In order to install Ubuntu inside Windows 7, you need a "virtual machine" software like the free VirtualBox, or the costly VMWare - then you can use both Windows and Ubuntu at the same time. However, when you divide how much space for Ubuntu and how much space for Windows, this divides up your computer to allow you to run Ubuntu on "the other side" - you will be running Windows on its own and Ubuntu on its own, not inside each other.
There is also a program called wubi that will allow you to run Ubuntu "alongside" windows, but it would be a lot easier to install and delete as it does the hard work for you.

The are 2 possible ways to install linux: along side windows (called a dual boot) and inside windows. What you described when installed linux on your desktop (XP) is not inside windows but along side.
You cannot use the same method to install ubuntu inside windows. You simply download the ubuntu file into windows and run it like any other windows software. Follow these instructions:

Well, you need to partition your hard disk to make separate space for ubuntu. In other words you need to shrink some of Windows partitions. Read these posts, everything is well explained:

If you want to install Ubuntu in windows, run wubi.exe from the usb drive. Or you can download oracle virtual box(free) and install Ubuntu in it.
