I need a reliable chainsaw for our small farm.?

We have five acres, and use the saw for firewood, clearing, etc. It doesnt need to be commercial grade, since I couldnt afford one anyway. If you have experience with a saw that will start pretty easily and consistently, thats really what I need. I have two right now that I fight with all the time.... and it shouldnt be that well for tools that are well maintained by an experienced user.

I would appreciate your insight on the good and the bad, because at this point I am pretty frustrated and wondering if there is such thang as a good chainsaw!

Thanks in advance for your time....

Stihls and Husquavarna are the 2 best makers at the top end of the price range, but I've always used Echo and have never had a problem with them.. As long as the point of the plug is clean your Echo will go nearly first pull every time.

Is the plug clean? And the fuel right? Are you over choking them or have the bar lock on. Is the plug gap set right? If all that is right open the plug gap a little. That will give you a little hotter spark or go 1 up on a hotter plug. I have had a lot of deferent brands and starting them was never a big problem. Are they getting air the airfilter clean? Go to higher octane fuel can help as well in a chainsaw. Have you cleaned out under the cover at the back of the chain? Woodchips can build there and with a little oil in it swell. and make them hard to start. I have used a half dozen different brands and starting has not been a problem. A small air leak at the primer bulb was my last problem on a blower hard starting.

I second Young Codgers advice. You can't go wrong with a Stihl, Echo, Husquvarna. They cost more than a green line Poulan/same as sears......but will far outlast the other brands.
