Want a backyard wedding, but don't have a backyard?

I really love the idea of a backyard/outdoor wedding! I think they're just so beautiful, but I don't have a big enough backyard, nor do I know anyone with a yard big enough. Any suggestions about this? I'm also willing to have it at a park or something if I could find one! I plan on having around 100 to 120 guests, and I live in MA. New Hampshire locations are also an option. Thank you!

Well, as someone mentioned, if you mean a typical backyard wedding, 100-120 guests is way massive. One thing you have to keep in mind as you plan any outdoor wedding is the weather. That's also the downside of a park, because you need a Plan B if it starts to rain. This isn't a biggie with 20 guests, but with that many, you'd need a huge tent. There's other logistical things you need to consider with that many, especially restroom availability.

The general thinking with a group this size is you use a professional venue that has indoor/outdoor possibilities. You can plan the entire thing in their garden, vineyard, barn, whatever, but if needed, they can easily move it indoors. Many of these places also offer an outdoor wedding and indoor reception.

Don't forget it rains in MA sometimes.

Here are some beautiful places with major lawn expanses, not to mention formal gardens and a lot of other things most of us don't have..

    look at Blantyre Castle

    http://blantyre.com/meetings-celebrations/weddings...

or the Crane Estate in Ipswich is beautiful

    http://www.thetrustees.org/crane-estate/weddings/

    or Elm Bank (100 acres!)

    or the Connors Center

    http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/offices/retreat/weddi...

    The Bradley Estate

    http://www.thetrustees.org/bradley-estate-function...

These places can handle the number of guests you want to invite. You don't want to have a wedding in a park without real parking if it happens to rain for the week before your wedding. These places all have stone walks and parking on gravel or pavement. The Connors center is actually pretty reasonable - and it's a beautiful spot.

100 people is way to many to try and have at a home, no matter how big the back yard is. There would be no where for your guests to park. My parents throw a big Christmas party every year and there are usually about 50 people that come, and their entire street, along with the whole next street over is usually packed with parked cars. You will have to look for an actual event venue. Where I live there are farms, gardens, wineries, and bio parks that are all available for rent.
