: “Do not fall into the ways of the nations . . . For the carved images of the nations are a sham, they are nothing but timber cut from the forest, worked with his chisel by a craftsman; he adorns it with silver and gold, fastening them on with hammer and nails so that they do not fall apart. They can no more speak than a scarecrow in a plot of cucumbers; they must be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them: they can do no harm, and they have no power to do good.” (Jeremiah 10:2-5, New English Bible)

It is talking about pagan form of worship that was inappropriate.

Contrary to popular misconception - Jer 10 does not refer to a Christmas Tree. In the first place, Jeremiah was writing to the "House of Israel" (Verse 1).

    Jer 10:1

Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.

The House of Israel is not known for Christmas trees.

Second, it was Jeremiah that was writing this passage. It was written to the people of his day. No one had Christmas trees in the days of Jeremiah.

And then there is this (CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT) in the 5th verse:

    Jer 10:5

They are upright, like a palm tree,

    And they cannot speak;

    They must be carried,

Because they cannot go by themselves.

Do not be afraid of them,

    For they cannot do evil,

Nor can they do any good.”

Even those who love their Christmas trees do not carry them around with them, and the issue of if they can talk or not . . .just never comes up. People who carve idols out of tree stumps, however, make a god out of it, pick it up and carry it around with them, and carve little faces on them.

If you actually have a tree that you worship, then this passage would certainly apply to you.

If you are looking for passages about the birth of Christ, Matthew chapter 1, Luke chapters 1 & 2, and look in the margin of your Bible as you read and you can find a multitude of cross references to Old Testament prophecies concerning these events.

If you are looking for a passage about idols that have to be nailed down to keep them from falling over - it has nothing to do with Christmas.

There is no verse in the Bible that speaks about Christmas. The Bible doesn't teach anything about this holiday since it nothing to do with Jesus' birth. This holiday has pagan origins, and the early Christians (followers of Jesus) would not have taken part in any pagan celebrations.

The crusades came many centuries after Jesus died.

The adorning of a tree was a pagan practice which is indeed mentioned in the bible and yes, its the same practice for the pagan festival of saturnalia (christmas)

What you seek can not be found in the Bible since no writer of the Bible celebrated Christmas. Christ never instructed his followers to celebrate his birth but rather his death only.

The Bible would not include a paganistic tradition like Christmas.

There is no such verse or verses about Christmas in the Bible.

The Bible didn't say anything about christmas. I don't know why the society says that it's Jesus' birthday. For some reason I recall someone telling me that it used to be a pope's birthday, or not a pope, but someone who used to be important.
