Why does my landline phone battery die despite being fully charged?

It's not the phone that does it, because we've bought three different cordless phones and eventually they all do this, I don't understand why.

It'll be on the charger for days but when I pick it up to answer or make a call, it says low battery. The charging light is on on the receiver when it's there, so it's not because it's not connected.

This is really annoying and I'd really like to know why it's doing this and what I can do to fix it.

The reason is that the type of batteries used in cordless phones deteriorate due to age both when used and when kept charged. As they age, they lose the ability to hold a charge to the point that when you go to use the handset, the battery simply goes dead. In reality, the battery really was nearly dead and it was just showing a full charge since it was just being charged.

The typical cordless phone battery life is just a couple of years on average. Newer phones, with the cost cutting involved to keep selling price down - may not last that long.

The solution is simply to replace the battery pack. These are a high profit item, however you will find them at much lower prices on-line vs. a local retailer. The phone came with a cheap Chinese battery pack... cheap Chinese battery packs are cheap to buy. Amazon and eBay are your friend here.

Maybe where you are plugging it in is bad, try plugging it in somewhere else. Or simply replace the battery.
