Started the birth control pill , now my period's heavier?
Back in August, my doctor put me on birth control for irregular periods. My first period after beginning taking the pill wasn't any lighter, but they were shorter (3 days) Before starting the pill, my period was about 5 days from start to finish, Now, my period has gotten longer. lasting a week from start to finish. Before starting the pill, I used to be able to use a Super tampon and I'd have to change it after about 5 hours. Now I'm lucky if I make 2.5 with one of the same absorbency.
Should I call my doctor and switch pills? Usually the body adjusts to the hormones after like 3-4 months right?
Thanks for any help! I'll choose the best answer in 4 days, maybe before!

It's important you understand that hormonal birth control will not help with your irregular periods, as works by suppressing your menstrual cycles to prevent ovulation it means you no longer menstruate - the bleeding women get while on the pill is a withdrawal bleed caused by the drop in hormones when going from active to inactive pills. If you have irregular cycles it's best to find the cause and treat that.
It's normal to experience irregular withdrawal bleeds for the first three months while on any new form of birth control, this is due to your body adjusting to going from a menstrual cycle to the pattern of withdrawal bleeding and to the new hormones. If this continues over three months you may want to consider switching to another brand of birth control.
