Creating oil in the lab doesn't solve our problems, though. because the biggest problem with oil-based energy (besides finding and extracting it), is that when it's burned, the hydrocarbons that were locked up in it are all released into the atmosphere. That is what is driving climate change. We don't need to make more oil, we need to find energy that doesn't come from hydrocarbons.
