I need ideas on how to properly care for a Boston Terrier?

I am used to boxers, but ours recently passed. Unfortunately we didn't take her out a lot, because it's harder with bigger dogs. We decided to go with a small dog this time around, so we purchased a Boston Terrier. They look like mini boxers to me. :) With this pup, I really want to make sure I'm giving him the proper amount of daily exercise, but my only concern is the fact that I have a young child (1.5 years), and another on the way. I'm a stay at home Mom, so spending time with my dog won't be a problem, and I'm big into proper training, but I need some ideas on how to exercise my dog while taking care of 2 small children. Where I live, there are no sidewalks, so walking with kids and a dog near my house is out of the question. Unless I go alone at night, which is also not the smartest. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks in advance.

After you drop the kids off in the morning, go to a local park :)

Only do parks after all vaccinations are done. But until then take pup out for early and proper socialisation.

As a pup, free play is best, no forced exercise i.e. running, jogging, jumping, using stairs, long walks etc until 12 months. Walks on lead should primarily be fore training not exercising. Exercise freely (just playing really) in an enclosed area until you have a reliable recall.

Mental stimulation will tire pup out more than anything :) lots of toys that are designed to make a dog THINK. i.e., kongs :) give her a sandshell full of sand. Plays games (find mummy! Find the treat! etc).

Take them all in the car somewhere that you can walk comfortably with a pushchair and dog.

I am wondering a little whether this dog is going to get enough exercise given your circumstances.

If you're big on training then I have to wonder why the poor boxer didn't get taken out a lot...size makes no difference to training and walking.

Sounds to me like you have purchased this Boston Terrier without planning everything in advance and especially as you are pregnant at the moment. Dog should of waited maybe.

Why did you get a dog if you can't take proper care of him? It seems like this dog will have a lousy life. A Boston needs several walks a day and is too small to be left out alone. I hope you work this out. I already feel sorry for this little sweetie. My mom had one and it was a sweetheart.

Have a grass patch for restroom purposes, obviously. Make sure it had lots of room because they are very energetic! Get food that is fit for their breed (can't name any off the top of my head). As for exercise, drive your kids and dog to the park or dog park. If there isn't one, find any public place with lots of grass and space. Bring bags for if your dog poops on the ground. I highly suggest walking your dog anywhere safe and out of the road. I hope you enjoy your new dog!
