what size electrode would you use and at what amperage to SMAW a .125" thick plate?

Update:

6011 ELECTRODE. SIZE 5/32 @ 120AMPS? OR WOULD YOU GO OTHER/SMALLER/LESS?

Update 2:

I want to get good penetration without burning holes through the plate.

Update 3:

Ty Dave for the info. The welds are various. Mostly just attaching mounting brackets, etc to .125" plates.

1/8 electrode, 75-125A, 6011. DCEP will give more penetration, AC a softer arc, less penetration, more spatter. I'd guess (depending how much of a heat soak the work is) up around 100-110A? What type of weld, what position?

I like Dave's answer but would change to a 7014 . 6011 is a deeper penetration rod and gives more splatter and will probably burn through most lighter guages. I quit using 6011 years ago and only use it occasionally and have not encountered any problems.
