Why do trousers have five belt-loops?
Every pair of trousers (I say trousers because pants means different things in different countries) I have ever owned, regardless of manufacturer or brand has had either five belt loops or none at all. From formal wear to summer shorts, it's always five. Not four, not seven, but five.
Why is this, and where did the custom come from?

For the same reason 5 pocket jeans have 5 belt loops, so your belt fit comfortably & evenly to HOLD YOUR PANTS up.
