How to tell what year a Nikon DSLR was made.?
I have recently purchased a Nikon D90. Its in like new condition. But I was just curious if there was anyway to actually break down the serial number and find out what year it was made.
The only info I could find out was that its a US camera based on the first digit which is 3.
Thanks to everyone who has answered. I already found out the cameras shutter count. I used this sight. http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
My D90 has a shutter count of only 15,500. Which is nothing. I was just curious as to when it may have been produced.

This list is pretty good. Check the Ser. No. against this list.

I would go with the Nikon D3000 as your first DLSR. I has a unique and user friendly interface for beginners. I have watched plenty of reviews on alot of cameras. also The new cannon rebel x1i that just came out is pretty nice.

The Nikon D90 was first released in 2008. It was replaced by the D7000 in 2010. It was officially discontinued in 2011. Instead of trying to find it's approximate DOM, you might instead, want to find out what it's shutter count is...

You might check with Nikon either by phone or on their site. That information is store somewhere but not on the camera.
