I don't work, but get financial aid. Do I have to file taxes?

I get financial aid through grants & scholarships. Do I have to file taxes? So far, I've only been using my mom's tax return info for FAFSA. Am I supposed to file taxes and use my own info on FAFSA also? I'm a dependent.

Curious because the only two boxes for financial aid on FAFSA are 'financial aid received by parent', and 'financial aid received by student'. When I enter information into 'financial aid received by student' it says I have to also report a gross income.

Thanks in advance!

If you receive more grants than education expenses then the difference is taxable. Usually if you do not work you do not have to file.

if you have no income there is no reason to file a tax return
