How do I properly set up a home-based writing business?

I am interested in starting a small, home-based business, but have no clue on how to get started. My objective is to write articles, blogs, etc. for other people..I don't have any professional degrees in language or writing, but I am good with words and typing up articles and so forth. Any ideas?

    Hey Bethany,

In order to become an online writer from home you first need a potential pool of clients and a way to get in front of them. There are several websites online that will allow you to pick from a range of topics website owners share at a price per word for you to write the article. They usually specify how long the article should be (ex. 500-600 words), the topic, the style of the writing, etc.. You can also do rewrites of articles which is a common request from bloggers and SEOs (search engine optimization specialists).

If a writer likes you, you can become a "favorite writer" and they will submit articles to you regularly so you will have a semi consistent flow of writing and cash flow. They usually pay out at the end of each month and the funds are deposited directly into an account you link online. It's usually pretty easy. The sites take a commission of the writing, so if you find an article where the writer is bidding .05 a word, .01 per word will go to the website that got you the job and .04 per word will be your payment.

Zerys and iWriter are two great places to start. Simply visit their websites and create an account by following their steps. You'll then have access to 100's of possible writing pieces to get started. I would go into more detail, but each of those websites will provide great detail and you'll learn as you go. This is a great way to get gigs and get started.

    Cheers
