JW's call Jesus a god, but not the Almighty God?

Question 1. If there is Almighty God and a god, how many god' do JW's believe in? If Jesus is called a god, is He a True God or a false god? A question JW's need to answer.

Update:

Robert, God is not Almighty? What Bible are you reading?

Update 2:

Bill, Jesus was 100% God and 100% human in a hyperstatic union. His human side had a God

Jehovah's Witnesses claim that Jesus is "a god," but not "the God" (i.e. "Jehovah"). They will argue that other beings are sometimes referred to as being "a god" and Jesus is no different, but they fail to recognise that Yahweh actually condemns these so-called "gods" as being false false gods. Jesus, the only-begotten Son of God, is different. He alone is truly, by nature, fully (100%) God and by way of the incarnation He is truly, by nature, fully (100%) human.

JWs will argue that Jesus was merely a "mighty god" and not an "Almighty God," but this is untrue. Jesus claims to be Yahweh when He says that "before Abraham, I Am" (the Greek says "I am," not "I was" nor "I have been"; the connection is clearly with Exodus 3:14, where in the Septuagint the exact same phrase was used to identify YHWH as "I Am").

In Revelation, Jesus is revealed to be the Almighty God.

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." (Rev 1:8 ESV)

And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. ..." (Rev 21:6 ESV)

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." (Rev 22:13 ESV)

JWs will argue that these refer to Jehovah God. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and the first and the last. However,

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades." (Rev 1:17–18 ESV)

"And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: 'The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.' " (Rev 2:8 ESV)

"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." (Rev 22:16 ESV)

Jesus is likewise revealed to be the first and the last, and the context of Revelation 22:13 includes v 16, and we find that both the Father and the Son are actually YHWH, i.e. Almighty God. True, the Son of God is called "mighty God," but look throughout the Old Testament and you will find that Yahweh is also called "mighty God."

Fun times. Alas, I need to go to work.

This comes up so many times and basically people need to study their bible (ANY version!).

There is NO trinity, its a pagan belief only added on by the RC in the 4th century. Its a blasphemy - Jesus is not Almighty God. He said his father was greater than he, he was ascending to his father and our father. After resurrection he called his disciples "brothers" - are you saying humans are equal to Almighty God? Or did Jesus mean as he was a son of God, not God, and thats why he could call them bros?

The bible tells us there are "many" gods, including satan. Surely you know that?

    " God" is a title...meaning a spiritual being....

    Only Almighty God denotes Jehovah.

Even the Bible calls Satan..."a" god,

(2 Corinthians 4:4) among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.

What did the apostle John mean when he wrote John 1:1? Did he mean that Jesus is himself God or perhaps that Jesus is one God with the Father? In the same chapter, verse 18, John wrote: “No one [“no man,” KJ, Dy] has ever seen God; the only Son [“the only-begotten god,” NW], who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.” (RS) Had any human seen Jesus Christ, the Son? Of course! So, then, was John saying that Jesus was God? Obviously not. Toward the end of his Gospel, John summarized matters, saying: “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, [not God, but] the Son of God.”—John 20:31, RS.

There is only one true God, Jehovah, but the opposite of true God is not always a false God, because the one true God means the Most High God, as Psalm 83:18 states:

May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah,

You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

The word "God" means "mighty one" Jesus is definitely a mighty one - through him were all things created (Colossians 1:16, John 1:3) There are others called "god" or "God" in the Bible -

Angels - Psalm 8:5;human judges Psalm 82:6; even Satan 2 Corinthians 4:4. But there is only one Most High God.

And only Jehovah is almighty, only Jehovah creates (Hebrew, bar-a'), and Jesus' God is Jehovah, which makes his Father the one whom he worships.

    Luke 1:31, 32

31 And look! you will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus. 32 This one will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and Jehovah God will give him the throne of David his father

    JESUS said, while on earth:

    John 4:22

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation begins with the Jews.

JESUS said, while on earth after his resurrection:

    John 20:17

Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”

JESUS said, while in heavenly glory:

    Revelation 3:12

“‘The one who conquers—I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will by no means go out from it anymore, and I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem that descends out of heaven from my God, and my own new name

I recognize this as one of a series of questions that is supposed to stump Jehovah's Witnesses. They have all been answered scripturally in our literature. You can ask them again, if you like. The truth does not change, no matter how often it is spoken or written.

There is nothing in the scriptures that says that Jehovah and Jesus are anything "hyperstatic", no trinity, no three persons in one God, no co-equality - they are in harmony with one another, but Jesus' Father is still his God in heaven, as he was on earth.

Jesus is the second person of the trinity ."For in him dwells the fullness of the deity , bodily"

    colossians 2:9 and 1:19

    Ephesians 3:19

John 20:17, RS: “Jesus said to her Mary Magdalene, ‘Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

(So to the resurrected Jesus, the Father was God, just as the Father was God to Mary Magdalene. Interestingly, not once in Scripture do we find the Father addressing the Son as “my God.”)

    1. Jesus is not God. God and Jesus are two different persons. God is greater than Jesus. Both are spirit persons living in God's kingdom.

    2. God is not almighty. Jesus did not teach so.

The Bible clarifies this matter in 1 Corinthians 8:5, 6: "For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him."
