Is traditional metal an outdated style doomed to fade away?

No alot of people appreciate traditional metal (metal from its inception as NWOBHM up to the advent of thrash metal that includes speed metal, doom metal and first wave black metal) anymore be it online or outside. People only know the most mainstream such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead etc. Others may know alot of thrash metal but almost no traditional metal. I don't get how so much metal music can just be forgotten like this. Are other metal subgenres such as Metalcore, Death Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Black Metal, Post Metal etc. that much better or are people repelled by the age and supposedly outdated nature of older metal?

BQ: If you are a fan of traditional metal, whats your favorite band of the style? Mines Riot.

Update:

Im aware metal has evolved into wholly different forms with traditional metal as a basic template only. I accept that the style wont live on but the thing is, the music itself isnt either. Despite all the traditional metal made in the 80s, I hardly see anyone listening to anything apart from Man O War, Dio, Black Sabbath etc when it comes to traditional metal.

If you look at it that way, it's fading. I see it as evolution. Traditional metal is still a source for influence. It's alive inside every new metal sub-genre. I'm a person who looks for innovation and creativeness in music. Traditional metal was those things back in their days but not anymore. It's just a preference for me.

I know people are going to hate me for saying this but many pioneers of every genre start to sound boring after a few decades because they are not new and refreshing anymore. It's the downfall of being a part of building a genre. Every other band got inspired and tried to copy their sound. When you hear the same sound played by hundreds of bands for years, you get bored and wish for something different. Pioneers lose their uniqueness that way... So yeah, I'm sticking to Post-Metal and Experimental stuff. Who knows? the bands I'm listening might become pioneers one day. I'm gonna enjoy it while they are still unique and hip :D

Well, I think you could argue the same thing with modern metal or any other type of music. Most people just listen to the famous bands.

No, it's not doomed to fade away, just like Jazz and Baroque Music, for example. And just because not everyone listens to Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Tokyo Blade or other NWOBHM bands doesn't mean it's fading away. And mainstream bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Motorhead are amazing, what's the problem with people listening to them?

    Everything fades away eventually.

When I started getting into metal in the late 90's it was melodeath like In flames, Dark Tranquility, Soilwork, Edge of Sanity, Opeth etc, so that's "classic" metal for me, and that has started fading away too, everything fades away.
