  • Do women listen to Prog Rock?

Just wondering if any of you has met a girl in real life who is obsessed or likes prog rock? I just want to know they exist.

BQ: what am I smoking, of course they exist. But how common are they? I live in Sydney, will I ever have the chance of meeting a female prog lover in person?

  • why isnt the Pixies everyones favorite alternate band?

People not into alternative dont mention or havent heard of them.

And people into alternative never consider it the best alt band. Heck most of them dont even consider it a good band.

Why is this so? The Pixies are easily in a top 100 best rock bands list. Why the lack of love?

  • Which Killing Joke albums are best suited for me?

For experts/fans of the band Killing Joke; their discography spans wide over more than 2 decades and they have many styles to their belt from post punk, new wave, alternative to industrial metal.

Which albums would be to my liking?

I've checked out their first two albums and liked them, which other albums are like the first two?

I'm looking for these styles of music in Killing Joke's discog:

    1. downtuned guitar, heavy bass, metal riffing, fuzziness, distortion and/or raw production sound, either blindingly fast tempos or sludgy, doomy tempos. (stuff that doom metal, early metal, crust punk, proto metal and certain post punk bands usually has)

    2.New Wave music : D

    3. anything with metal and punk elements or is metal/punk. Kinda overlaps with first point but I want to make it clear.

  • Is traditional metal an outdated style doomed to fade away?

No alot of people appreciate traditional metal (metal from its inception as NWOBHM up to the advent of thrash metal that includes speed metal, doom metal and first wave black metal) anymore be it online or outside. People only know the most mainstream such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead etc. Others may know alot of thrash metal but almost no traditional metal. I don't get how so much metal music can just be forgotten like this. Are other metal subgenres such as Metalcore, Death Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Black Metal, Post Metal etc. that much better or are people repelled by the age and supposedly outdated nature of older metal?

BQ: If you are a fan of traditional metal, whats your favorite band of the style? Mines Riot.

  • Whats adult contemporary music?

Im aware that this is a radio format that was active in the 80s that was played alongside AOR music (Which I do have a solid understanding of). I know that this genre has now been merged with other rock music of the 60s-early 90s to form the classic rock format.

So what sort of music is considered adult contemporary and what are examples?

  • What the **** are breakdowns in metal music?

What are breakdowns? This may sound dumb but I'm predominantly an old school metal fan so I don't really listen to modern metal, metalcore, nu metal, alternative metal or groove metal.

The only things I'm aware of is that this is the closest thing modern metal has to a guitar solo (although some modern metal bands still have solos) and has existed since the 'groove' style of metal emerged in the 90s.

  • Which console sounded better? The Genesis or SNES?

As a damned Millenium kid, I do not know the wonders of having a genuine Sega Genesis/Megadrive or a SNES and being emulator lag free and hearing the true sound of either console. I have played on a true Genesis (for once I am not talking about the band) but not long enough to notice its sound system.

    So which console sounds better?

BQ: What are some kickass game soundtracks on either console?

  • Whats the heaviest metal song that you ever heard?

    Spam videos for me plz.

Oh and by the way, electronically enhanced metal does not count! (amping the decibels is a lazy way to increase loudness and causes deafness)

  • How the Sh1t is What did the Fox say is so popular?

It has a quarter BILLION views despite being a dumb song. Its even dumber than your typical pop songs.

Is the popularity a testament to the hoplessness of todays youth?

I can understand how Gungnam Style became so popular (Asian dude, 'catchy electronic beat', weird music video)

But what the actual fck are people letting pass as entertainment these days?

    Q: Are we not men?

    A: We are DEVO!

That about sums up the human race.

  • When people say underground, what do they really mean?

When people say underground, I'll go; Yeah! I love underground music! and then the people will reply with a strew of indie bands that I DO NOT KNOW. I'm confused. To me underground should mean any music that isn't currently popular or wasn't popular (aka, non-mainstream).

Instead most people that I know seem to use it to refer to indie music.

So what is its true meaning?

  • Any music or bands that you used to like but not anymore?

Be it whether we have other commitments, a change in music tastes or peer pressure; we will disown some bands or genres that we used to be completely crazy about. What are yours?

BQ: A band or genre that you liked, rejected and then adopted again?

  • Timeline of metal heaviness progression? (basically a metal timeline)?

I know a decent amount about the evolution of metal but I want everyone to make up their list of chronologically ordered songs that outlines the birth of heavier rock music and the evolution of the heaviness and 'metalness' of metal. I want to get the full picture of metal evolution from its roots as distorted blues rock to its final form as extreme metal.
