why isnt the Pixies everyones favorite alternate band?

Question

People not into alternative dont mention or havent heard of them.

And people into alternative never consider it the best alt band. Heck most of them dont even consider it a good band.


Why is this so? The Pixies are easily in a top 100 best rock bands list. Why the lack of love?

I don't know anyone who denies the importance of Pixies, even if they don't personally like the music.  They were enormously influential.

The lack of exposure is probably due to the fact that their most popular album is 25 years old, and got minimal radio play even back then.  There is a whole generation of music fans who know them solely from the Fight Club soundtrack.

It's 2014 and people think that "alternative rock" is still an actual genre :)

That being said, I love the Pixies but I slightly prefer Husker Du over them.

Simple answer: Because peoples' music taste varies.

If one band was EVERYONE'S favorite band, then there would be no point to anyone else playing music, and it would be really boring.

The fact that what you like isn't the same thing I like leads to more variety in music.

The answer is simple- It's because The Smiths are everyone's favorite band.  But the Pixies can be everyone's second favorite band if that will help...

pixies were brilliant, lucky enough to have seen them a few times. not everybody has got good taste,  agree that husker du were brilliant too.

They aren't an easily accessible band. It takes a while before you get them. I like them.
