    Indeed. Progressive rock is what eventually got me into metal.

    Some do, some don't. Why generalize? I'm sure some fans of progressive metal dabble in progressive rock also.

    sure.

    but just because somebody like metal doesn't mean they only like metal. I am a metal fan but I also love me some J-pop every now and then, I even like a little opera too.

    Well, personally, I do. But then I love a lot of genres from deathcore to pop-punk to classical music. I don't see why they couldn't, I mean, just 'cause you like one genre, doesn't mean you can't like another :)
