So you got your stripe. Meaning you had a belt to receive the stripe. Which means you can just continue to use that belt instead of the new belt that came with the Gi.

I agree, but it's not just BJJ that seems to get watered down. I've seen 1st dan grades awarded to kids a big no-no for me) and adults after just a single hour of grading, personally disgusts me....I did a full weekend (8 hours), plus a few months travelling 60 miles or so every week to prepare for mine! Also, hulks comment about Helio sayin that no one was worth a blue belt etc, is a comment that was also echoed by my grandmaster Prof. William Rankin 10th Dan (Passed away now, god bless him!), he was considered world wide as the 'Gentle Man' of Ju-jitsu, never did an interview or ask to be paid for teaching. He always said to me that most of the styles of ju-jitsu were so watered down that at green/blue belt in his style and that of his instructors, you were as good as a Black in others (That wasn't a brag, it just broke his heart to see bad and self-profitable instruction!)

    I still use tape haha.

You should have the same belt that you started with, the academy will provide your belts. You should not wash your belt, you should always wear the same belt. The belt is a tale of the journey we have traveled to get to where we are. My purple, brown and black belts are so faded and scuffed up but continue to wear them.
