Is this car reliable?

I'm looking to buy a 85-89 Pontiac Firebird.

Now I know muscle cars have quite a history about breaking down... but I was wondering how this one does. Anybody out there with a firebird that runs good and doesnt break down?

and don't even worry about gas mileage. I just need to know if they're reliable.

I don't think that muscle cars have any more of a tendency to "break down" any more than other cars do. It all depends on the condition of the car, obviously. Look under the hood. have someone inspect it professionally. Take it for test drives. If it is an old hoopty then it will be more likely to break down. However, if it is a fully restored, showroom-quality car then it will be fine. Btw, those are some good years of the Third Gen. Trans Am's. Them are some good looking automobiles.

Muscle cars don't have "a history about breaking down", per se.

Cars made in the 80s when new stuff like fuel injection came into play did...and most 25-30 year old cars break down a bit as well.

Actually, the whole point of a muscle car is that it can take more abuse then most. But then most drivers feel free to abuse them. So it depends on the previous drivers. Firebird has always been more reliable then Mustang or Camaro for example.

It wasn't such a good car when new, and now it's all worn out. You know the answer.

No. It was built during GM's dark days. The powertrain will probably be alright, but everything else will die.

in my experience, buying this car would not be a good investment. Find a Toyota of that same year and I would pay twice the price
