Is it still possible to be pregnant after having your period?

My period was a whole month and a half late, but I eventually got it for like 6 days straight. Just wondering if there's still a possibility of being pregnant even after having the period.

If the period was just like any of your normal periods (other than the fact that it was late) then it's unlikely that you're pregnant. There are other reasons why a period can be late for example stress, hormone problems, etc.

However that doesn't mean you for sure aren't pregnant. Did you have unprotected sex 7-14 days before you missed your period? Do you have other pregnancy symptoms (ex nausea, sore breasts, cravings)? If so then you could be pregnant despite the fact that you got your period.

Just to be safe, you should take a home pregnancy test. First Response and Clearblue are both good brands. Buy a box with 2 tests. Take the first test in the morning when you first get up. If it's positive, you're pregnant and need to see a doctor. If it's negative, test again in 3 days. If both tests come out negative then it's pretty much guaranteed you aren't pregnant, but if you continue to have late periods and/or experience pregnancy symptoms despite having 2 negative tests then you need to see a doctor because it means something else is going on.

    Good luck! :)

  • I would take a test to be sure. Sometimes it takes the body some time to recognize the baby, so a cycle is still possible. If the test is neg. see your doctor.
