Regarding the ex-football players suing the NFL:?

I totally agree with you. My best guess is that many ex-football players probably had an extremely poor work ethic, especially with their eating and exercise habits. Instead of suing the NFL, what these ex-football players should have done was eat healthy, and exercise by doing a lot of running every day. Doing these things would have helped these ex-football players get into better shape, which would have greatly reduced their risk of suffering serious head injuries.

Well we're talking professional level here...not high school or college (compare the average collision in the NFL to the average collision at the collegiate level). We're talking the millions of dollars made (literally) from the blood, sweat, and tears of these athletes who basically have nearly a 100% chance of injury. Speaking of injury, most expect compensation for being injured on the job. People expect the military to compensate veterans for injuries and conditions as a result of their service. This isn't much different.

There is a disconnect because to us these are just games. To these NFL athletes, it is their livelihood. It would break your heart to see what the game has done to greats like Earl Campbell and Tony Dorsett. For these men, their complications from life after football has been largely ignored.

Exactly. The vast majority of these guys started playing football before high school, yet they didn't sue their local pee wee league, high school, or college. Instead, the sued the NFL. Why?

Because the NFL has money that those other entities do not, and the former players (rightfully) guessed the league would pay them off to make the problem go away. Theses jackasses knew the risks involved in participating in such a violent sport but they eagerly took the money they were offered, so they're as much to blame as the NFL. If someone smokes two packs a cigarettes a day for 10 years, don't whine because you get lung cancer -- you did it to your own damn self.

What you have are a bunch of lazy, stupid, college dropouts who blew the fortune they made during their playing days, and they wanted another ride on the gravy train. They're all pathetic and despicable. I hope they suffer slow and painful deaths.

I played football a long time. When I was a sophomore in highschool (1991) playing with the varsity squad when guys actually started to hit hard I remember the day I was crushed and couldn't see for about 10 seconds. At that time I knew that hitting like that it couldn't be good. But, we all continue to play because we love the game.

Our society has been conditioned to the point that no one wants to take personally responsibility for their own actions or decisions. It's always someone else's fault.

The players seem to think that the NFL didn't do enough to help prevent and treat the concussions.

because they can, this is the American system, do things to ourselves knowing full well what could possible happen, then blaming others for the negative consequences of our actions.
