competetive run times?
I went on a selection with PWRR on the Gurkha base in ashford last year. Throughout the weekend i was told 10 30 is the competitive time for 1.5miler. However when it came to the run it was more like 9mins. It got me wondering what the hell the competetive times must be for the Royal Marines, Paras, and the USMC and any other US infantry based forces must be. Answers? (Please no we have to swim across the channel carrying a camel under each arm etc just honesty)

10:30 is the standard run time for all serving British Soldiers under the age of 30. This increases by 30 seconds every 5 years over the age of thirty. Some units try and impose their 'own unofficial' standards on the 1.5 miles. However for selection for the Parachute Regt the minimum time is 9:30. Please note all these times are the minimum standard and you are actually considered becoming unfit if you are at the 10:30 mark. (if you are under 30).

around a 9 min 1.5 mile is a pretty standard run time
remember, that is just a test run time
in real life - your gonna be running a lot further than 1.5 miles
so then they look at your run time for 5 miles or 6 miles, not just 1.5 miles
