How to pay for college when financial aid isnt enough?
I'm trying to figure out a way to help my gf of 4 years pay for college. She's in pre-nursing,has 1 year left of prereqs, and has a 3.78 gpa. She's been at a community college but it's nearly time for her to transfer to a university.
Financial aid gives no where near enough money and she doesn't have a co-signer for a loan (parent's have terrible credit). Out of both of our parents, only one is employed. The others have been unemployed for a little over 2 years now. There are no jobs in our town, and no one has a reliable vehicle to commute out of town for work.
Scholarships are insanely competitive, (even with good grades) and even if she gets one, the surrounding Universities subtract that amount from your financial aid, thus there's almost no point in even applying for them.
We've already contacted each school and no one is offering any help other than FASFA. Even with work-study, she has to come up with $6-8k on her own.
Are there any legal options left? We're both good students, we've never done/sold drugs, no criminal background, not even a driving ticket. I'm an engineering major in my junior year and she's prenursing in her 2nd year. Our parents are just poor and never saved a penny for our college education. We've literally paid ALL college and living expenses on our own,
Any moral/legal suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

She needs to apply for hundreds of grants and scholarships, most can be done online. Try:
Cappex.com
Chegg.com
FastWeb.com
Zinch.com
Also, she should ask the community college she currently attends as well as all the schools she wants to attend what they have to offer. With her GPA, she should get a lot of them.
BTW - Why doesn't she just get an AS in Nursing, and be an RN?
