They use to say after 16 you should have a regular pap smear once a year, now they are saying until you are 30 that once every 2-3 years is okay. I do not agree with this, and still think for every women's safety you should still have one every year.
Obviously you know that if you have an unusual experience, or have discharge from your vagina you should go in and be looked at, but regular pap smears do save lives. Women seem to think if they are 30 or younger that they are too young for things like cancer. This just isn't true. I am 30 and last year I had constant bleeding (very light, darkish color, but enough to where I had to wear a tampon), I went in and had it looked at, and found out that I had a large cyst growing in my left ovary. I had not had a pap smear for 2 years prior to this because I was told I could wait 3 years before needing one. They have removed the cyst and I am waiting on the results on if it is cancerous or not, but I wish I would of had gone in earlier and had a regular pap done.
Anyways, sorry this got long. Good luck to you and I hope this helps some!

you should go every year, and when you get 3 normal paps in a row it means you can start going every other year, or whatever your gyno recommends.
