Was Ariel Sharon kept on life support for 8 years?
That's quite a record. Who paid the medical bills? They must have been enormous!

Ariel Sharon’s family paid part of his medical expenses, which totaled NIS 1.5 million annually, that was a decision made by a Knesset's Finance Committee.
The state and the Sharon family paid for manpower, medical equipment and the expenses necessary for him to have hospital conditions at home. In addition, medical staff from Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer was brought to the ranch, and a part-time administrative worker was hired to coordinate between the Sharon family, the hospital and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Not really a record, there have been people kept a live on life support for much longed.
As for who paid- he came from a wealthy family and was the Prime mInister of Israel- the bills were partly paid for by his family and partly by the state, as is the case with most heads of state who fall ill.

Not a record by any means. Some people live in coma for decades. Terri Schiavo was in coma for 15 years, for example. The actual record is 37 years (Elaine Esposito).

As I understand it, he did not put down anything in his will regarding disconnecting from life support in case of a coma. His children decided to keep him connected. It was by no mean a decision from the top.
