Is there a way to alter a sweater pattern to fit?
hi everyone
I am planning to knit myself a sweater this winter. I've chosen a pattern that gives the finished size as width- 19 in, length- 22 in and sleeves 21 in. The cast on stitches are given as 150. The length is fine but i am worried about the width. Since I'm a bit on the heftier side i would like to know if there is a way to alter a pattern according to one's measurements. Any help would be great. Thanks

The pattern will tell you how many stitches give 10cm in width. From that you may calculate how many extra sts to cast on.
If you are big all over then you will also need to adjust the armhole so a bit of pattern rewriting is required unless it is a drop shoulder style, in which case increase a few more sts for the sleeve to make the armhole deeper.
If you just have a big bust then your back neck, armhole depth etc. will be the same as the pattern.
