Can you get out of a contract for accomodation payment?
I want to drop out of university and apply for September. I just informed my parents and they're not happy because they have apparently signed a contract to pay for my accommodation for the whole year and obviously they'll be losing a lot of money if I drop out. The money is paid through direct debit each term and so far only one payment has been made for the last term. The deadline for the second payment is in just over a week.
I'm going to ask the people who own the accommodation and maybe the uni if I have to but what is the likelihood that I can get my parents out of the contract and not have to pay anymore fees if I drop out?

Do you mean you want to leave Uni now and go back in September. If so you are deluded. They won't take you back. You have already taken someone else's place for a few months, and there is no guarantee that you won't do it again.
As for the rent. You have signed a binding contract.

Unlikely that they can get out of it without some serious negotiating with your landlord.
A lease is a legal document and when signed by each party has to be adhered to. So you are being given a lesson in the grown up world early on. Learn it well.
Your parents are probably angry with you about this and rightly so. They will be out of pocket a lot of money and I hope they make you contribute.
Your ONLY hope is that you can find someone willing to take on your (or at least your parent's) obligation and that the landlord agrees - which by the way he or she is under no obligation to do.
If I were you parents I'd be telling you to sort out your own accommodation needs next time and pay for them yourself.

Read the article in last Saturdays' Guardian Newspaper...it was about exactly the same case...in that instance the ex student is having to honour the contract and pay £90.00 a week until the end of the uni year, the only way out of this is to find another tenant to take on the rental.

None!!! and if my kid (any of them) did this I would tell her she is paying her own way from that point on. Call them right now and apologize. Stay in school. Your parents may not expect much from you but, honey the world sure does. There is no better time to start showing who you are than right now and that means with the nose to the grindstone and with the absolute best grades that you can earn.
You haven't given any reason why you need to leave if it is a need, then I apologize. If it is a want-I stand by my comments. Best of luck-I do hope you will consider their side of this too.

NIL is the succinct answer.
Only way to mitigate costs is find someone to take over your tenancy , which isn't likely.

A contract is a legally binding document, so no, they will still have to pay
