Tattoo regret after first tattoo?
First off I am not looking for "you're stuck with it forever" or "you should not have done it" because that will not help me at all. I am 23 and I just graduated college, I have a job (and they don't care about tattoos) and I decided for 2014 that I wanted to live it to the fullest. I am single, have a good job and a recent college grad. I got a tattoo about 4 days ago. It is a quote on my inner right bicep in black ink, so nothing crazy. It is barely noticeable when I wear a t-shirt and obviously covered up when I wear dress shirts (which is my primary clothing choice) I was so excited when I went in to get the appointment, and even more excited when I went to get it done. The first night I was ecstatic and was eager to show everybody at a small party I went to. But now....I am unsure. Its not the tattoo itself I regret, I think it has more to do with the fact that I now know it is going to be there forever, and it can be noticed. I think I may be somewhat self conscious of how others may view me now, even though my mom and all my friends really like it and only have positive things to say. A few of my friends with tattoos say give it a few days, and see how things go. Its really all I think about lately, "was this a mistake?" in my mind. I even have researched about tattoo removal and how the whole process works. It is my first tattoo, and like I said I think I may just be adjusting to the fact that it is there, and always will be (aside from expensive removal techniques).
I guess what my question is, is this feeling common, especially with a first tattoo? I almost feel a bit depressed. Or does anyone have any similar stories that can relate to me?
I have had it for 4 days not and still taking care of it with the lotion and stuff. So any HELPFUL feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Side note I am one to get anxious easily.

This is completely normal! My uncle is a tattoo artist and I can't even begin to tell you how many times somebody would come to him a few days after with regret, then a couple days later remembered why they got it in the first place and fell in love with it all over again. There's nothing to worry about. Wait a little while and see how you feel. If, in a couple of weeks you still don't like it, then you could get it removed, but I would really think it through and remember why you wanted it in the first place! c:

I do not regret my tattoo at all. I got the Chinese symbol for faith, and because it means so much to me, I haven't regretted it for a second. Placement also has something to do with whether or not you'll regret a tattoo, so keep that in mind. But I have several other tattoos planned out, all of them dealing with religion and faith, because that is something that is important in my life and that I hopefully will never regret. That's how I pick MY tattoos. I've often wondered how others can get tattoos that don't mean much to them but that they think will be 'cool' at the time, and the truth is that they oftentimes end up regretting them. Be careful to properly plan and give thought to any tattoo. Good luck!

Its definitely strange to have something new on your body that you know is temporary. You made a decision to get it so you must have liked it when you did it. I think its totally normal to be self conscious about. I worry about getting a tattoo that other people may see because its hard enough to feel comfortable when people look at you especially when they are looking at something you have temporarily decorated your body with. If you are not yet comfortable with showing others that part of you then its easy to cover it up, i do think though that with time it will become a part of you that you may even be proud of and want to show off! Dont consider laser removal yet, try and give it some time to grow on you more :)

Its normal, and I felt the same way when I got my first (and second) tattoo. I got them at the same time (long story). I remember the next day getting out of the shower, and this sinking feeling that I "missed a spot" and wasn't clean. Once they were fully healed, I remember rubbing and rubbing them with soap, knowing they wouldn't come off, but had to see for myself.
I do remember my first realization how I looked; when somebody posted pics of me during a party on Facebook. Somebody made a comment that it was like the cover of a Playboy magazine; a bunny was hidden in almost every picture.
That was 5 years ago, but even now I'll be looking at them after a shower wondering when they will fade. But mostly I'm used to them, along with all my friends, family and don't remember what it was like not to have bunnies on my arms.

When you're uncomfortable with it or don't want it to show (like at some events), you can always hide it with a bit of concealer.
Don't worry, you'll probably get used to its presence :)
Hope this helps!

It's okay, you'll adjust to it. Also it helps to keep in mind that almost everyone has tattoos, so honestly people just aren't going to care very much whether or not you have one

I felt that way for like a week... After every tattoo I get lol but then I'm like, well I like it and I've gotten compliments on them all and it makes me feel better.. it's just cuz it's permanent that you feel that way but it'll go away :)
