How do you pronounce Brat (as in Bratwurst)?
A friend of mine insists it's brat like "cat" but I've always heard it pronounced as in "caught". What area of the country is it common to pronouce it as "cat" ~ and doesn't that seem weird to you?

In the original German pronunciation of the word, the 'a' sound is slightly longer than the English 'a' so it is pronounced similar to Brahmin, but in the US, who knows how many regional variations there are.

patato potato
tamato tomato
bratwurst braughtwurst
roof ruff
I obviously tried to spell the words people pronounce them. Spelling matters, but geographical dialects change the pronunciation.
