First open parenthesis to combine like terms

    (15x+4)+(7x-5)

    15x+4+7x-5

Add the x terms and add the plain numbers

    22x-1

You write the x terms first ( this is x to the 1st power) then the plain numbers with no x ( this is x to the 0 power), if you had a term with x to the 2nd power then it would have been written first. This is what is meant by descending degree order.

    Combine like terms

    15x+7x+4-5

The final and decended answer is

    22x-1

You just take away the parenthesis and combine like terms.

    (15x+4) +(7x-5)= 15x+4+7x-5= 22x-1

    (15x + 4) + (7x - 5) =

    15x + 4 + 7x - 5 =

    22x - 1.
