RECIPE CALLS FOR PUY LENTILS?
A recipe I'm trying to follow asks for out lentils. Would it be ok to swap these with red split lentils? I've never seen puy lentils before. I live in the UK and they don't seem readily available.

They are pretty easy to find here in the UK, all the big supermarkets have them as do many health/organic shops. You can get pre cooked/ready to eat ones in pouches with some cooked simply, others with flavourings. Then you can get the dried ones as well that you need to cook yourself. Which are right for you is down to the recipe.
Puy are from specific to the Puy area in France, but Green Lentils are the same variety and are also readily available in tins here in the UK.
Red, brown and Beluga are NOT the same and not readily interchangeable. Puy/green lentils hold their shape far more than red/brown and taste quite different to beluga.

Best would be anything called a "French lentil". Second best would be the standard brown lentil that is the same thing as the split red lentil (masoor dal) except it has not been de-corticated.
If you do use red lentils, be warned that they cook VERY quickly compared to Le Puy lentils. Adjust accordingly.

Puy lentils are green. I think all the main supermarkets have them in the UK - Sainsbury's certainly do.
