Set up programs that created many jobs, mostly to accomplish improvements of various kinds. For instance the Tennessee Valley Authority created a system of power dams that supplied electricity to the surrounding states. The Civilian Conservation Corps hired many young men to make improvements in parks and other public spaces. Look up these and the WPA, the PWA, etc. etc.

The new deal didn't do anything even thought it is credited for getting us out of the great depression. In the Book, "Liberty vs. Tyranny: A Conservatives Manifesto"it says that increased production is credited for getting us out of the great depression.
