Gaming performance in Windows 8 compared to Windows 7?
I was wondering if someone could provide some convincing evidence that overall, gaming performance in Windows 8 is better than in Windows 7. I bought 8 as soon as it came out and didn't notice any significant performance differences. And then I got 8.1 when that came out, and the native DPI scaling was such garbage (I use a 46" TV as my display) that I just had to quit and go back to 7.
Now, recently I've seen several benchmarks showing the performance difference for Battlefield 4 on Win8 specifically (due to the native DX 11.1 support in 8 that is lacking in 7, among a couple of other factors). My question is, is there any proof out there that other, older games would benefit from the upgrade?
I abhor the Windows 8 UI (specifically how the buttons on prompts and title bars look, and how the "glass" feature of the task bar itself looks like trash), but I'd be willing to upgrade if persuaded that my games would run better on it.
I appreciate that answer.
I know 11.1 isn't a requirement but apparently some newer games are already taking advantage of it.

Windows 8 has mostly similar performance to 7 with the exception of stuff like BF4 which was optimized for Windows 8, apparently.
Windows 8 is very slightly faster in most cases due to various under-the-hood improvements, but it's not enough to make a difference.
Basically, you don't really lose any performance by going to 8, provided everything works, but you won't gain much either.

Windows 8 still has problems with lots of hardware drivers. Therefore Windows 8 is not as good for gaming as Windows 7.
There are zero games that require DX 11.1.
Finally, using Windows 8 with a mouse is just downright aggravating. Stick with 7.
