What's your thoughts on Abortion?
Today marks the anniversary of Legalized Abortion on Demand, here in Canada - Jan 28 1988.
Do you think that was a step forward, or a step backward for Canada?
For those who are looking to adopt, do you think this law has lengthened the wait time you incur in order to have a child? (Do you wish it was reversed)?

I think it's a sad anniversary. 2 million Canadians have never had a chance to take their first breaths due to abortion. You are now missing not only those 2 million people in your society, but every child that would have been born to those who were killed in the 1980s and early 1990s who would now be adults.
Abortion is the worst form of discrimination - all of that human being's rights are forever lost in that one act.

While I'm not a big supporter of abortion and most likely would never have one myself, I do think that early abortion makes much more sense than going through pregnancy and birth just to hand your child to strangers. I think vulnerable women should be given more support to be able to keep and raise their own babies, but if they're absolutely sure that they don't want a child, then they shouldn't be expected to continue the pregnancy just for the benefit of potential adopters. No woman has a duty to birth children for others, and no one is entitled to someone else's baby.

Good for Canada!
Definitely a step forward.
Here's a little piece of information for you: adoption and abortion are unrelated. Here's why: abortion is an alternative to pregnancy. Adoption is an alternative to parenting. Women who find themselves pregnant and don't want to be pregnant usually have abortions. Women who don't believe in abortion for religious or other reasons tend not to get pregnant and then just hand their kids over to strangers. They USUALLY find a way to parent their kids themselves.
For example: I found myself pregnant at 21 and considered two options, parenting and abortion. I never for one second thought, "I'll have this baby and then give it away to perfect strangers." See? If I'd chosen to not have an abortion, the lines wouldn't have been any shorter for potential adopters -- I'd have raised my kid myself.
Legal abortion doesn't lengthen the wait time for adoption.
Illegal abortion, however, doesn't necessarily decrease the number of abortions...it just makes them more dangerous.

I think it is a very personal choice and shouldn't be discussed on yahoo answers.
