I think people felt tricked by the twist. I went into it already knowing the twist, and I liked the movie for the most part. Since i knew what to expect, the twist didnt bother me.
BUT the idea that her father would let a blind girl from a preindustrial world walk ALONE to the modern age to get medicine left me completely disgusted. what mental case would do that? d.

I liked the movie. I paid to see it was it was first released to theaters. I watch it every time I'm surfing through TV channels looking for something to watch and it happens to be showing. Plus...I even have a copy of it on DVD.
To be honest with ya', I did not see the twist coming. The daughter was the most logical person to make the trip for life-saving medication. And M. Knight's cameo appearance topped the cake.
So for all those who hate The Village, there are a few of us, including me, who really like the movie.

The twist was highly implausible and the plot lifted heavily from a Twilight Zone episode entitled "A Hundred Yards Over the Rim".

I don't understand how so many people hated this movie. Yet, so many people loved "White Chicks." What a sad, sad time we live in.

Dude...... this is a subject close to my heart..............it's a sad case.........
the guy started off with soooooooooooooooooooooo much promise............
The 6th Sense........Unbreakable........ I even loved SIGNS........(which many said was the begining of the end for him...........) But I LOVED that he snuck in little cameo's into all his films.
But then........he comes out with The Village. Groannnnnnnn........what a clunker.
and it didn't help that he got busted pulling a really stupid fake publicity stunt, to build publicity for the movie.
When people found out they had been played for FOOLS..........they savaged him....and the movie........which really stunk anyway.
Ya think the guy would try to make up for it..........and then he gives us "The Happening"........where in fact, not a damn thing happened for over 2 hours.
Oh, okay, the TREES are out to get us. Uh Huh...............YAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNN .
Still seeking to redeem himself.............he then comes out with The Last Airbender.
Seriously bro? and you expected to find work after that?
But miraculously.......the die hard fans STILL had faith in the dude........and what does he DO????
He foists "After Earth" on us.
DUDE-------------I was the guys BIGGEST fan.............I LOVED Unbreakable, and swore I would catch ALL his movies........but , after sitting thru "AFTER EARTH"..........
he'll be lucky to get a job washing dishes after that BOMB.
Two hours of watching Jaden Smith run thru a forest. Really , bro? I mean, REALLY?????????
from one of Hollywoods most promising Directors???????? We're suppose to buy Jaden Smith as an action hero now?
Dude........until I get my REFUND for "After Earth"...........I will never go see another of his movies again.
You can't do that to people and still expect their loyalty.
Even Will Smith APOLOGIZED for that movie-......and it was his son!

I didn't like it because the pacing was slow and boring, it wasn't well written, and the direction was terrible.

I thought it was slow, and there's no suspense. The "twist" was just stupid.
