i'm half japanese ; how many ancestors do i have on that half from now to back 500 yrs ago?

If our asking how many people your related too??? Well, its 2014 and life or time keeping etc. started at AD-after the death of christ--babies can be born every year--BUT most people only have 2 babies etc. so lets say 2 every 50 years?? So 2014 divided by 50 is-40.28 x 2= 80,000 , so your probably have 80,000 people related you in some way or another.--Japan is a Island so maybe more.

There are some facts, and you need to make some assumptions.

First the fact: In a complete genealogy without intermarriage, the number of ancestors doubles for each generation. Without special gene splicing etc., your dad had exactly two parents, four grandparents eight great grandparents, and so on, back to the beginning.

Now you must assume the average number of years for a generation. Twenty five years might be a good guess. Some women would have had children earlier and some later. That would mean five hundred times four or 2000 generations. You may subtract one from the exponent because you are figuring only your father's lineage.

So its 2 raised to the 1999th power. That is a huge number (an integer) with more than 300 digits.

Well, you have a lot of ancestors. Japan are exit long period time ago. From this generation to another. It probably gonna be more than 10,000 people. You know from the Kingdom to now day world. You don't even found out who is your "first" ancestors,how it start. One interesting thing is that maybe the guy you meet in the street have the same ancestors with you but you don't even know. I only know my grandpa father, I don't even know who previous him. So your ancestors probably more than 10,000.
